WPL Auction 2023: India opener Smriti Mandhana was sold to RCB for Rs 3.40 crore at the Women’s Premier League Auction in Mumbai on Monday.

Royal Challengers Bangalore secured the signature of Indian opener Smriti Mandhana for a sum of Rs 3.40 crore at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Auction in Mumbai on Monday. The auction saw an intense bidding battle between Mumbai Indians and RCB, with the former starting the bid at INR 50 lakh and the latter ultimately winning the rights to sign the star player.

Mandhana, who made her T20I debut in 2013 at just 16 years old, is a standout player in the Indian batting department. She holds the record for the fastest fifty by an Indian woman in T20Is, having reached the milestone in just 24 balls against New Zealand in 2019. With 2651 runs in 112 matches, Mandhana is the second leading run-scorer in T20Is among Indian women, following only the team captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Additionally, she ranks third among all openers in the format.
