A two-time T20 World Cup winner with Australia, Gardner’s batting and crafty off-spin make her a vital member across all formats.
Gujarat Giants secured the services of Ashleigh Gardner for Rs 3.2 crore at the Women's Premier League (WPL) auction held in Mumbai on Monday. The Giants faced tough competition from Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz in the bidding process before ultimately winning the rights to sign the star player.
Gardner, a two-time T20 World Cup winner with Australia, is a key member of the team due to her impact with both her batting and crafty off-spin. She was instrumental in Australia's successful start to their 2023 Women's T20 World Cup title defense, recording the best T20I bowling figures by an Australian at an ICC event (5 for 12 against New Zealand).
Currently ranked as the No.1 T20 all-rounder, Gardner was also the 2021-22 Belinda Clark Award winner as Australia's best female international player and the player of the tournament in the WBBL 08. Among the 29 Australians on the auction block at the inaugural WPL auction in India were Ellyse Perry, Meg Lanning, and Alyssa Healy.
